ISMM is a forum for research in management of dynamically allocated memory. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: explicit storage allocation and de-allocation; garbage collection algorithms and implementations; compiler analyses to aid memory management; interactions with languages, operating systems, and hardware, especially the memory system; memory management related tools; and empirical studies of allocation and referencing behavior in programs that make significant use of dynamic memory. ISMM solicits full-length papers on all areas of memory management.

The program, abstracts and slides of talks are here.

The award for the Best Presentation was made to Mark Marron.

After the Wild and Crazy Ideas session, ISMM participants voted to award prizes. Prizes were awarded for the craziest idea (Kenjiro Taura, University of Tokyo ) and the idea most worthy of implementation (Philippe Wang, UPMC University Pierre and Marie CURIE).

We are pleased to announce that ISMM'10 will be held on June 5 and 6 in Toronto. The General Chair is Jan Vitek and the Program Chair is Doug Lea.

Putting together ISMM'09 was a team effort and we had a great team. First, we would like to thank all authors who submitted work to ISMM. We particularly wish to thank PC and RC members who did an extraordinary job under an extremely tight schedule. We would also like to thank our keynote speaker, Maged Michael, for his talk on Memory Management Issues in Non-Blocking Synchronization. Finally, we would like to thank our sponsor ACM SIGPLAN and our supporters, IBM Research, Sun Microsystems and Microsoft Research.

Hillel Kolodner, General Chair
Guy Steele, Program Chair

Previous ISMM conferences ISMM 2009 continues the tradition of the successful conference series established with the International Workshops on Memory Management held in 1992 and 1995. From 1998 to 2006, ISMM was held biennially, co-located with either OOPSLA or PLDI, and as of 2007 has become an annual conference. Proceedings of the IWMM workshops are available from Springer-Verlag (Lecture Notes in Computer Science Nos. 637 and 986), while the ISMM proceedings are published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

Supporters ISMM is grateful for the generous contributions from its supporters.
